Bone Surgery
Splinted fractured leg
All surgeries involving bone injuries must be seen and assessed by our Doctors initially before treatment or surgery can begin. Depending on the severity of the injury, location or age of the patient, K.V.H. may refer our patients to an orthopedic specialist such as Sun Valley Animal Clinic or West Vet in Boise. Bone surgeries done at K.V.H. are always an overnight hospitalization procedure. Many of these surgeries include ACL (knee) repairs, fracture repairs, and IM pinning. These procedures always require the patients to be on strict bed rest for prolonged periods of time to lower risk of re-injury. They also require re-occurring visits with the doctor to track progress. Bone surgeries are painful, this is why K.V.H. enforces a pain management protocol to ensure your pet is as comfortable as possible.
